Candy Shot

As part of a promotional campaign for the Slam Drunk bar in Athens, Greece, I was contacted by a marketing agency to create and shoot a commercial video to promote a new party that the bar was introducing. After brainstorming ideas with the marketing agency, we decided to create a commercial with a cinematic feel. The objective was to emphasize that the party was designed by the people and not the bar. The video starts with an actor sitting in front of a whiteboard, trying to come up with new ideas for the party. He then receives an email from an unknown source that contains a video of people talking to the camera. The video includes interview clips, which are inserted in the edit. As the videos play on the computer, the actor starts erasing the board and writing down the new party ideas. He takes notes on a piece of paper and gives the new instructions to the bartender. The bartender then proceeds to create the new drink, while close-up shots of the gummy bears and party scenes create a lively party mood. The video ends with shots of the new party logo and name.

The shooting schedule for the video clip was divided into three days. On the first day, we captured shots in the city center, where people were asked to talk into the microphone and suggest things that they would like to see at a party. On the second day, we filmed the bar scenes with a focus on drink preparation. The shots for this sequence aimed to create a dreamy candy look for the drinks that would be the highlight of the party. Finally, for the third day, we had a more complex set-up where the main person behind the creation of the new idea was in front of a mind map that would lead to the idea of shot glasses. We used blue and orange lighting to create a contrasting look to the rest of the video, emphasizing the difference between the inception of the idea and its execution.
